My Profile

I have lived in North Wales most of my life and I am currently living in Holywell, Flintshire with my family.  I have two children; Hannah who is 2 ½ and Jacob who is 1 ½ (pictured above).

I gained a degree in music from Bangor University in 1996 and a PGCE teaching qualification in 1999.  I have a lifetime love of music and I am passionate about using music with young children.

For the past 5 years I have been teaching in an independent school where I taught music, and key stage 2.  I was also a Special Needs teacher and co-coordinator for the Prep and Senior school.

I have gained much experience over the past years working with groups of children and adults who have special needs.  I am very keen to use Kindermusik with children who have special needs as I have seen many positive effects with my brother who has severe learning difficulties and autism.  Music is a powerful tool for communication and expression and I am always amazed at how therapeutic it can be.

After my second baby was born I decided to take a longer break off work and came across Kindermusik.  Having read about the wonderful benefits Kindermusik can offer to children and parents I decided to train and become an Educator.

I have enjoyed taking my daughter Hannah to ‘Our Time’ classes in Prestatyn; in which I have found to be very rewarding.  Not only has it helped my daughter to be more expressive and confident but I too found it very inspiring.  I also discovered that the home materials provide a wonderful way to bond and have fun singing and reading with your child.

More than 5,000 licensed educators use the Kindermusik curricula offering music classes for children in more than 66 countries, reaching 1 million families. Quality

Kindermusik International has more than 25 years of experience creating curricula based on new and proven research in child development. The award-winning books, CDs, games, and instruments nurture skills in the whole child: cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and language.

The Class

In a Kindermusik music class, educators lead a group of parents and their children through fun activities, using music and movement. Parents learn more about their child's unique developmental process, and the shared learning experience creates a unique bond as the child associates learning with fun, musical play.

At Home

Kindermusik recognises that the parent is the first and foremost teacher - so the learning process continues at home, guided by specially designed books, CDs, and games.

Classes

Each Kindermusik class is a world of discovery and adventure. In every class, you'll witness your child's developmental evolution in language skills, literacy, listening, problem solving, social skills, self-esteem, and musicality. And it happens within a nurturing environment-full of energy, imagination, music, dancing, and playful delight.

Kindermusik provides the time and tools to help bring the power of music into your home and your child's life forever. An integral part of every Kindermusik programme, your Kindermusik At-Home Materials include the highest-quality music CDs, creative activities, beautifully illustrated children's books, and specially designed instruments-created to complement the music and Kindermusik classroom experience.

By adding new concepts and challenges along the way, each age-appropriate programme acts as a stepping stone to the next-paving the way to a musical journey that can last seven magnificent, musical years.

Special Needs

Did you know that Kindermusik has long been an integral factor in the development of children with special needs?  More and more therapists are finding that the Kindermusik curricula are highly effective in fostering growth and development in children facing the challenges of autism, Downs syndrome, physical and learning disabilities.  Kindermusik’s multi-sensory design means that children with special needs are involved in an enriched environment of music, stories, pictures, creative movement, and a wide variety of interesting objects. The Kindermusik experience not only emphasizes the joy of sharing music but also supports the emotional and social development of the child.

Can you sound like an elephant? Or hop like a bunny? Our Time encourages your child to uncover an engaging musical world while building confidence, self-control and communications skills. Singing, imitating sounds, rhyming and object identification foster language skills. Creative movement to various musical “moods” develops a sense of balance, timing and spatial awareness. Listening and turn-taking encourage blossoming social skills.

Kindermusik Our Time is designed for children 1½ years to 3 years of age. Along with an accompanying parent or caregiver, children meet weekly for a 45-minute class and enjoy singing, moving, listening and interacting socially, and playing simple instruments. Exploration Time encourages a child's discovery of specially designed instruments, textures, sounds and movements; language skills are fostered with singing, sound imitation, and vocal play; Music & Movement Story Time encourages emergent literacy skills; and creative dancing affirms a child's urge to movement.

A different approach from other sign language programs. Through songs, toys, and loving playtime between you and your child, Kindermusik Sign & Sing shows you more than 50 signs your child can use to communicate with you. Using research-proven methods shown to speed language development in hearing children, you'll see how sign language can ease frustration and enhance long-term learning abilities for your child.

Songs and finger plays. Already accustomed to finger plays and rhyme-songs—such as "This Little Piggy"—you'll easily substitute American Sign Language (ASL) signs in familiar songs, improving your child's language skills, fine motor skills, and strengthen fingers for zipping zippers and using scissors.

Learn when you play. You'll never have to memorize a list of signs. This curriculum gives you the ASL signs that are most useful to you, and most interesting to your child. So playtime and everyday items around the house—ball, bubbles, mom and dad—become the objects of learning in the classroom, and sign language becomes a natural, happy part of your child's day.

Hearing children who know signs, learn language almost twice as fast. As early as 11-14 months old, hearing children exposed to sign language put little sentences together faster than non-signing children, who do not begin to combine words into short sentences, such as "Da-da car" until the average age of 20 months.
Study conducted by Dr. Michelle Anthony and Dr. Reyna Lindert, Signing Smart program founders.

Benefits for Your Child and You

  • Communicate with your child even before she can form the words.

  • Ease a child's frustration by helping her communicate what she needs, speed language development, and enhance long-term learning abilities.

  • Know when your child is most ready to interact and learn.

  • Learn sign language teaching methods, such as making the sign on a child's body, on the floor, or hand over hand.

  • Recognize and respond to your child's version of signs.

Enjoy the Journey All Week Long

Sign & Sing is much more than a weekly class. The At Home Materials you receive from your Educator help you to continue that one-of-a-kind experience at home. Class Policy

Choosing a class

The age recommendations outlined for Kindermusik classes have been carefully constructed to best group children in an age and developmentally appropriate way.  Therefore, it is important that your child be at least the minimum age by the start of the term for the class in which you are enrolling.  If you have concerns about your child's success in a particular age range, I am happy to discuss your child's needs and to work with you to place him/her in the class best suited for him/her.

Free visits

At certain times throughout each session, I am happy to schedule a free visit in one of my classes.  Please call for availability.

Register Early

Although you may join our classes at any time, please register early since class sizes are limited and many fill quickly.  Registering at least three weeks before the term begins also ensures that I will have your child's materials for you at your first class.  If you enrol after the term begins, tuition can be pro-rated accordingly.

Enrolment Confirmation

A registration form and payment must be received before enrolment can be confirmed.  You will received a phone call, email or mailed notice within two weeks to confirm your registration.

Attendance

Once you are enrolled on the course a place will be made available to you for the entire duration of the course, as numbers are limited.  If more than two classes are missed your place on the programme will be cancelled.  Only under special circumstances will your place be reinstated.

Refunds

The costs of materials are non-refundable.

Make-up Classes

Classes will be made up in the event of teacher illness or inclement weather.  I will notify you of the cancellation and the scheduled make-up day.

Non-enrolled Siblings

Due to the limited class sizes and the delicacy of the younger class settings, Village and Out Time classes can only accommodate non-enrolled siblings when the sibling is young enough to stay contented in a car carrier or stroller.  Emergency exceptions are considered.

Making the Most of Kindermusik Classes

Plan to arrive about 5-10 minutes early for class.  Arriving a little before class provides time for your child to settle in to the musical environment as they prepare to enjoy exploring instruments, reading books or listening to music.  We do request that toys, juice cups, and soothers be kept out of sight and that snacks be finished prior to class.  Be sure to dress comfortably.

During class, the most important thing you can do for your child is to be an active and patient role model.  It is not uncommon for a child to attend several classes before feeling comfortable in class.  Don't be discouraged - what a child is absorbing in class is often evidenced in the comfort of the home environment rather than in a certain level of participation in class.  The understanding and consistency of the parent or caregiver in class and at home are key to facilitating musical learning and growth.

By the way, I love for parents to visit before or after class, but not during class time, please.  When you are an active, focused, enthusiastic participant in the class activities your child will model your action and focus more fully, too.

You and your child will enormously benefit from theKindermusik experience, especially if you make active use of your At Home materials.  Frequent reinforcement at home throughout the week makes all the difference in a child's comfort and participation in the classroom.

Please do not hesitate to contact me by email or telephone if I can be further help. I look forward to having you and your child join us for a great term of Kindermusik classes!
